Eugene Goodman

On January 6, 2021, Officer Eugene Goodman, a black PFC in the Capitol Police, lured insurrectionists away from the Senate chambers where lawmakers were debating.  The mob was primarily (maybe only) white, predominantly male, and bent on destruction, injury, and death.  The mob included white supremacists and many others antithetical to racial (or anything other than white) equality.

In my opinion, Officer Goodman showed the highest standard of duty and courage.  In spite of what his experience and common sense must have alerted him about the mood of the crowd, duty came first as he made instantaneous, life-saving AND personally life-threatening decisions to ensure the safety of his charges, our representatives.

I am at a loss to say more, except to recognize his courage and devotion to duty.  May he be a shining example of the good in this world.
